EXCAVATION IN PROGRESS
Recording of the burnt mound remains at Ballymacarney

Project overview

IAC carried out all pre-construction phase archaeological services for the Ballmacarney Solar Project at Ballymacarney and Baytown in Co. Meath. This included preparation of a detailed desktop assessment, geophysical survey and extensive test trenching to assess the potential impact of the proposed development and provide a programme of appropriate mitigation. Archaeological remains discovered during the course of the initial investigation were variously subject to preservation in-situ and preservation by record (i.e. excavation). Highlights of the archaeological investigation included a Bronze Age burnt mound or fulacht fia which was associated with a wood-lined trough and scattered pits and postholes representing structural remains.
